KAUSANI

Kausani is at a distance of about 2 hours (115 km) from Nainital. Kausani is a small but beautiful hill station at a height of 6075 feet, located in Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand. It presents a panaromic view of three Himalayan peaks viz. Trisul, Nandadevi and Panchachuli. The first two mountains belong to the Kumaun range while Nandadevi belongs to Garhwal range of Himalayan mountains. Trisul is a mountain with three peaks. Panchachuli has five peaks. Nandadevi is the second highest mountain in India next only to Kanchenjunga. All the peaks are very beautifully visualized from Kausani.

Kausani is famous for Anashakti Ashram. This was initially a guest house where Mahatma Gandhi had stayed for a few days. Gandhiji called Kausani "Switzerland of India."

Kausani is full of greenery and has quite a few tea estates. Tall coniferous trees are present in abundance. It has a small market with few shops. Kausani hand made shawls are an attraction for tourists.
